This summer I went

To the village of Huairou[1]

 

The Shentang Valley

Spreads in dazzling green

 

From the depth of the woods

Comes a sad bleating

 

In the forgotten ancient walls

Electric wires go in all directions

 

I enjoyed the mutton served with bare hands

At the bright bonfire

 

I stayed in a house by the creek

All night long raindrops fall on the doorway

Till it is a bright new day
